Dear Parents and Carers
It has been a week of mixed weather with sunny, cloudy, wet, hot and cold. We have seen students sitting in the shade rather than play, 'It's too hot!' and on other occasions running for the whole lunch break! La Nina is bringing joy to the farmers and green to the Valley and changeable days for play.
Community Council
I offer thanks to the St Pat's Community Council for their support of the Kinder 2022 Parent Information session this week. Thank you for your organisation and service! Thanks to Donna Salway and Antoinette Woods for your help with welcome and morning tea. Thanks to Carmen Shoveller and Helen Kennedy for having uniforms ready for sizing and purchase.
A gracious thank you to the Council for their continued work in support of our school. Despite the restrictions that Covid has brought the members of our Community Council have continued to meet and plan for ways to engage community, raise funds and think forward. Our last meeting of the year was this week. I look forward to, and know the school community will be thrilled with some of the fun that is planned for 2022.
Public Speaking
How wonderful that a St Pat's student represented our school at the Archdiocesan Public Speaking finals! We are very proud of you Rowan!
BehaveAbility
It has been great to have Ian Luscombe back at St Pat's yesterday and today to continue to strengthen our approach to positive and respectful behaviour. Ian has been working alongside teachers in the classrooms and playground and with the Leadership Team supporting using effective language for instruction and direction.

School Cleaner
Mr Geoff Tomlinson is finishing as school cleaner at the end of the year. We thank Mr Tomlinson for his great work keeping the school clean. ARCHDIOCESAN PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION
Today I have had the pleasure of witnessing a very proud moment for St Pat's Bega when a Year 3 student presented her speech at the Archdiocesan Public Speaking Competition. Rowan Leiper delivered an engaging and well thought our speech on the topic "How to pick a book". Rowan has spent many weeks refining and practising her speech and delivered it beautifully today. Hi my name is Rowan and I am here today to tell you all about how to pick a book. Some people like me get really stuck for choosing a book to read.
Here are some tips that could help you to choose inspiring things to read.
This is a couple of the many recipes to find the most perfect book.
Number 1: To be able to pick a book you need to know what topics you like. I would personally think of 2 or 3 topics to choose from.
2: you also need to read the blurb or at least 3 pages of the book
One other importance is to not rely on the cover to relate to the inside of the book because some people think it is all fairies and unicorns.
Most good books like Harry Potter's J.K Rowling put a lot of interesting bits into the book that aren’t on the cover but are very necessary bits that make the book very interesting.
3: You also need to know the authors you like for instance if you like girly books and comics I strongly recommend that you read the series by Raina Telgemere.
Some people wonder why it is important to know what books you like?
1: So you don't get bored when reading.
2: So that you enjoy it, which helps your brain.
So, how do you know if a book is a good fit for you when you are reading it? Well it influences you, it brings funny memories back to you.
Why is it important to read? Reading is good for you. It strengthens your brain and it helps you sleep. Research shows that 6 minutes of reading a day helps lower stress levels. And reading a book that you like brings you happiness. So in conclusion, follow these steps to picking a good book for you and fall in love with reading, just like I have.

Creativity Under Construction
This week 1/2B, 1/2F and KF participated in a class retreat which focused on prayer.
Students were given opportunities to express themselves creatively, explore the three worlds of the text and explore different forms of prayer including Lectio Divina.
Book Club is due Friday 3rd December.
