Dear Parents and Carers,
A highlight for me this week has been listening to and speaking with the Year 5 students aspiring to leadership positions of School and Sport Captains for 2022. On Wednesday 12 of our Year 5 students presented speeches to an assembly of their parents, teachers and the senior cohort of students whilst being livestreamed to the middle cohort of students who participated in their classrooms. Further to that 17 students presented speeches to their house team in classrooms.
I am so proud of school captain nominees; Abbey, Jasmine G, Claire, Alice, Eloise, Isabella, Lily, Jasmine L, Tomas, Cooper, Will and Nate. They spoke about their personal contributions to the school as well as their hopes, dreams and aspirations for leading St Pat's.
I am equally proud of the students who have nominated themselves for sport captain roles; Luke, Blake T, Will, Connor, Jasmine L, Claire B, Ruben, Adam, Charlie, Logan, Abbey, Jayme, Isaac, Nate, Claire C, Eloise and Isabella.
After presenting their speeches these students attended an interview with myself and Mrs Ferris and shared further their personal attributes, the commendations of others and some of their creative thinking for our school into the future. Without exception these students have held themselves with poise and grace and personal confidence, what fine young people will lead our school next year!
At our final school assembly in Week 11 the school leaders for 2022 will be announced.
And, another highlight was getting all the children safely in cars and on buses when this weather storm hit at bell time on Wednesday welcoming in December with style!
Tribute to Mr Bennett
This week a special memorial was installed at St Pat's to honour and remember Mr Bennett. We commissioned Jordan Tarlinton, a past St Pat's student, and past student of Mr Bennett to create an art installation to forever remember Mr Bennett. Jordan has a business, JT Sculptures, and you may have seen some of his creative work around the Valley. In the small garden area near senior block we will mount a plaque and plant a shrub as a special space to sit and reflect, remember and think fondly of Mr Bennett. Thanks Jordan for a fabulous artwork!
In a week of listening to speeches I was delighted to be asked by Michael in Year 3 if he could have a meeting with me. He and a senior student had briefly spoken about wanting to design a project at school for helping others and the world. Michael came and presented this speech to me;
Hi, My name is Michael and I want to make the world a better place.
Here are some of the ways we can do this. We can be:
* Kind to each other
* Grateful for what we have
* Respectful to our parents, teachers and each other
* Be honest if you do something wrong, and learn from your mistakes
* Show love like God wants us to
* Be happy and make someone smile everyday
Let's all make the world a better place together!
Over and Out!
I look forward to working with Michael and the team or club he organises for kindness projects in 2022.
