In TERM 2 all students return on Wednesday 27th April.
Dear Parents and Carers
And just like that, with a flurry of activity, we celebrate the end of Term 1 of learning in 2022. We have had a marvellous last week of term, with a few significant occasions and events for celebration, and the announcement of our new Parish Priest Fr Adrian, please see Mrs Grant's welcome message.
Cross Country
Thanks to Mrs Harnett, with supporting organisation from Mrs Sheahan, we had 2 great Cross Country Carnivals this week. Thank you to the many parents and carers who came to cheer on the children and enjoy the races. A significant thank you to our Year 6 sport captain and vice captain leaders for their generous support on the day!
Camp Cooba
Thank you to the teachers and support staff; Mrs Sheahan, Mrs Ferris, Mrs Carracher, Ms Rees, Mr Broughton, Mr Forbes and Mr Aldridge for taking our Year 5/6 students on camp to COOBA for the last 3 days of term. Thanks to Camp Cooba for a great outdoor challenge camp. Thank you to our students for your resilience, persistence, perseverance and collaboration taking up the challenges that camp has offered to each of you.
Thank you to the Community Council for a wonderful Easter raffle. A special thanks to Mrs Shoveller, the two Mrs Kennedy's for organising the prizes and the draw! There were 3 special prizes for each class draw and then 20 extra prizes for the whole school raffle draw!
Congratulations to the winners!
Easter
We end the term as our faith community approaches Palm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week. During the holiday we walk the journey of the cross on Good Friday and wait with hope until the resurrection on Easter Sunday. This short reflection from God's Word on the Easter Sunday gospel reading gives insight into the hope of the resurrection.
'It was still dark when Mary of Magdala came to the tomb and found the stone moved away. Her first thought was not resurrection, but that someone had taken Jesus' body, so she ran to get help. When Peter arrived, he saw the burial cloths. When John arrived, he saw the same scene, but 'he believed.' John, known as Jesus' beloved disciple, saw with the eyes of his heart and just knew that God had raised Jesus from the dead. Easter Sunday celebrates that darkness was overcome by light. But Easter is not a once-only event. We catch something of the reality of resurrection whenever we experience new life emerging from hopelessness. This transformation can be personal to our own circumstances when relationships break down or disaster of one sort or another strikes. And it can be global. What about the Good News stories that emerge from violent situations and crises such as pandemics? It is all a matter of seeing reality through the eyes of our heart. This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad.'
ANZAC Day
Please join us for the ANZAC day march and commemoration on Monday 25th April. This year St Patrick's school captains Lily and Nate have the honour and privilege of giving the oration!
For students able to attend the march please be at the Club Bega end of Gipps Street at 10.30. Please wear day uniform and full black school shoes. The march commences at 10.45. The commemoration is from approximately 11.00-12.00 at the memorial.
And a little inspiration for parents this holiday!
.....Let's get reading onto our children's agenda....
Many blessings on a happy and holy Easter and a rejuvenating holiday.

FROM THE REC AND SUPPORT TEACHER
Lent
This week Mrs Scott-Pegum and I have been visiting the junior and middle primary classrooms to share the Easter scripture passages.
Students have shown deep conceptual understandings by asking questions:
"Why was it called the passover?" Ashley
"Why did they punish Jesus if he did nothing wrong?" Joel
Ways to Pray - Stations of the Cross
During the Easter break you may like to Reflect with your children by Praying the Stations of the Cross with Children
Appointment of Parish Priest
We were notified by the Archbishop this week that Fr Adrian Chan will be our parish priest from 26th April.
We look forward to welcoming Fr Adrian.
Cross Country
We were very lucky to have such a nice day for our school Cross Country Carnival. Thank you to the parents who were able to come along to support your children. As you can imagine, cross country is a tough event, and it was good to see the children striving to finish the course. It was great to see the fitness of those still running strongly at the finish and we were proud of all who managed to get finish even with some walking. A great effort from all those who crossed the finish line!
The Southern Region Carnival will be held at Wolumla on Friday 29th April. The children who have been selected for this have taken home a permission note. The note needs to be returned to school on Wednesday 27th April.
Rugby League
Congratulations to three of our senior boys who have been selected in the Canberra Goulburn rugby league teams. Nate Irvin has made the under 12 side while Drew Duncan and Blake Taylor have made the under 11 team. These boys will travel back to Canberra next term to trial for the MacKillop teams. This is a tough day playing against the strong Sydney and Wollongong sides.
Our swimming ambassador Lily Salway competed in Sydney this week at the NSW Championships. It was a tough field but Lily swam admirably. Her classmates were excited to be able to watch it live on the big screen. Well done Lily we are so proud of you!
