Dear Parents and Carers,
Last night many children in Year 5 and 6 received the Sacrament of Confirmation. We acknowledge these children at this very special time. Confirmation is the third of three sacraments of initiation in the Catholic Church, along with Baptism and Eucharist. Archbishop Christopher Prowse presided last night, and in his homily shared something of a recent meeting he, and many bishops from around the world, had had with Pope Francis. The beautiful message for the children, and all of us who gathered, and now for all of us as a School Community, was a message of care, love and connection in 4 places:
- With God
- With our family
- With our neighbours and those we spend our days with (friends /classmates/ work colleagues)
- With those in need – the lonely, the displaced, those living in poverty
As a Catholic school and community we work with you, the parents and carers, to teach about being people of faith and the ways of making true and daily life-giving connections with others. I know that at St Pat’s our MJR’s and our token systems help to recognise to students the ways in which they are living the values of Christianity. Please take some time to speak with your child about the ways they can grow their connections
Next Friday we will be raising money for SOCKTOBER – for Catholic Mission. Yes, it is a little before October, but our intent is true to the cause, we could in fact call it Socktember! So next Friday is a mufti day with an emphasis on CRAZY SOCKS! It is a gold coin donation day and all monies raised will go to Catholic Mission. The profits from our special food on that day will go to that cause!

BONDI2BRIGHTON BIKE RIDING TEAM
On Tuesday morning we had the Bondi2Brighton bike riding team visit our school. The team of 28 riders are travelling down the coast, from Sydney to Melbourne. Their goal is to raise awareness about dementia and fundraise $200,000!
It was such a great presentation for our students, who listened to personal stories of why they are doing this bike ride. It was also a lot of fun and our students all received a frisbee and bike ride. Did you know that bike riding releases serotonin and dopamine, which improve mood and reduce stress? Research has also found that exercise like bike riding improves brain health, thinking and reduces disease like dementia. Makes me want to go out and ride my bike!
