Our deepest condolences

It is with sadness that I share the news of Des’s passing. Des is Therese Lunghuesen’s father, he passed away peacefully on Thursday 7^th November. As a community we keep Therese and her family in our prayers. Therese will not be at work for the coming week at least. Every effort has been made to maintain stability for the students. We ask for your understanding at this difficult time for Therese.

It’s the Perryman Pass

I’m excited, the concept of the Perryman Pass is taking flight. As I write this piece for the newsletter, my result is 5% of the school have seen me with a piece of work they are proud of.

I will thank and reward every child in the school when they bring a piece of work to me that they are proud of. I will ask them to help me achieve my goal.

Keep going

It’s highly unlikely that I will achieve my goal, but I will not give up, I will keep going. I will continue to evaluate and modify.

Last week I attended the Principal’s Meetings and spoke at length about what I am trying to achieve through the Perryman Pass. Every colleague I spoke to said “Caz, keep going, what you are working toward is strengthening the relationship between home and school.” I was affirmed that my colleagues could see my purpose and I hope you do to.

One of the most exciting responses I received this week was from Sonya (5/6B). I asked Sonya “What is the best thing about St Pat’s?” Sonya’s response was ‘the learning experiences I receive”

Celebrations of Learning

This term each class will host a ‘Celebration of Learning’. It’s a time to showcase what’s been happening in class and highlight quality work. Last week we had many parents visit 45L, 56G and 56B to hear about their inventions and read their latest piece of publishing. It was great to see the growing confidence of our kids, sharing their learning with their parents and their peers’ parents. I was delighted to taste some ‘inventions’ as well as see the different ways students chose to present their work. In the coming weeks, the other classes will host a Celebration of Learning – keep an eye out on the Skoolbag weekly notices.

 

Every morning we make a prayer circle and take turns at saying a prayer. While we are in our prayer circle, we hold onto our holding crosses.

We need your help, St Pats!

It is that time again when we help out the St Vincent De Paul Society to help those who are less fortunate than us to enjoy the season of Christmas.  In the weeks to come each class will make a Christmas hamper. We are asking you to help out by donating items from the list below to help fill your class hamper:-

Kinder Orientation commences next Wednesday 13^th November 9am-11am.

Students will need to bring a hat and water bottle, fruit for fruit break will be supplied.

Venue: St Patrick’s Library

Time: 7:30pm (1 hour session)

Date: MONDAY 2^nd DECEMBER

• Fixed Mindsets- and why we don’t want learners to have them.
• Learning Language- and how you can be a big help at home!
• Praise- it can be good………. or not so good!
• The importance of the right kind of feedback - and how important the parent role is in this.
• Challenge- is it better to get the easy stuff right, or struggle with the more interesting and challenging stuff?
• Why your school is involved in this learning and how an already very good school can become even better.
• How a focus on improvement will more naturally lead to achievement.
• What high schools notice about growth mindset learners.

George Telford is a former classroom teacher and Principal in Victorian schools for 35 years. He helped implement these changes at his own school with results that you might be interested in! George is now the Senior Consultant and Australian Director for Challenging Learning.  Challenging Learning are working with St Patrick's on 2nd December. This night is designed especially for parents/carers and it would be wonderful to see you there.

Orientation is coming up this month and we need more second hand uniforms for our QKR Second hand shop. Having a ready supply of second hand stock provides an accessible and affordable option for new families beginning school. Please see if you have any items to donate, particularly in sizes 4, 6 and 8. We kindly request that all items are cleaned and undamaged. All proceeds go back to our School Community.
