NAIDOC week of celebrations
Thank you to those who came OUT IN THE COLD last Friday night to support the Vinnies Winter Appeal. Thank you to Mrs Tam Prime for your generosity in cooking a pot of delicious chicken and vegetable soup to keep everyone warm. Thank you to Bega Baker’s Delight for the donation of bread for the sausage sizzle. Thank you Mrs Grant for organising this important event.
Thank you to Mrs Harnett for another great Athletics Carnival, and whilst it was a day OUT IN THE COLD, there was great participation and achievement from our 8-12 year old students. We look forward to our 5-8 year old carnival early next term (read the news from Mrs Harnett).
Thank you to our Koori kids and families for their leadership this week in our NAIDOC learning and activities. Thank you to Ms Rees for her passionate leadership as our Aboriginal Contact Teacher, and to Brytan Aldridge our fabulous Aboriginal Education Worker. We have enjoyed so many rich experiences including art, dance, food sampling, craft and music.
I wish you a restful and enjoyable holiday. Perhaps you will be OUT IN THE COLD during the break, perhaps at the snow or in the mountains? Please keep safe in the holidays and keep up to date with areas/hotspots to avoid to ensure a safe return in Term 3.
Blessings.
Jo
CELEBRATION OF LEARNING
Thank you to parents/carers for visiting your child's classroom this week to look at all the learning that has been going on this term. At St Pat's we are always focussing on all students making progress in all areas of learning. It was great to see your engagment with the children when sharing the work they had done.
FROM THE REC AND CLASSROOM SUPPORT TEACHER
Thank you to all students and families who supported our OUT IN THE COLD event for the Vinnies Winter Appeal. Thanks Tam Prime for the delicious soup, and Bega Baker's Delight for the donation of bread!
What an amazing term 2 full of learning and growth inside and outside the classroom. On this the last day of term, I want to talk about the Character Strength of ZEST.
“ZEST is having energy and enthusiasm for things”
People with zest get excited about even the small things and like to get the most out of life. They also are fun to be around and are very good at getting things done. Who do you know that that has zest? Think of a moment and remember a time recently when you showed zest. How did it make you feel?
EMPOWERED PROGRAM
All students who have completed the Empowered Program have studied all of the 24 Character Strengths and identified their top six character strengths. Looking each week to identify people around them, at school, in the community or at home has helped accentuate the positive attributes of people in their world. My hope is that all St Pat's students come to appreciate their own strengths and the strengths of those around them and use them for positive change in the world.
PEER MEDIATION
All grade 5 students have experienced the role of Peer Mediator this term. Some students have been enthusiastic and other a tad nervous. The important learning however is that every grade 5 student “had a go”. Thank you for using your BRAVERY character strength and trying something new even though some of you were apprehensive at first.
ENGAGE PROGRAM
Next term a new program for parents called “ENGAGE” will be launched to enable parents to connect over a cuppa and a 10 minute input from local services, some quest speakers and some personal nourishment in the form of Mindfulness. For more information email: Alicia.spicer@cg.catholic.edu.au
NEWS ON LOCATION
A big thankyou to Isobel, Nate and Ella for their zest in delivering the news of the day through a one minute video. Their enthusiasm to lead and be a St Pat's Kid has been a role model for other students to follow.
Enjoy

WELLBEING
The school athletics carnival was held on Wednesday in fairly unpleasant conditions. The field was very wet in places but we were able to complete all events. The relay changed from a circular relay to a shuttle relay to avoid a very muddy part of the track. Penola was the winning house for 2021.
The age champions are
Junior girl – Arly Schrader, Jnr boy – Drew Duncan
11 yr girl – Claire Breust, 11yr boy – Jack Garner
Senior girl – Ella Taylor, Snr boy – Lincoln Thompson.
Congratulations goes to these children as well as the team that has been selected to compete at the Southern Region Carnival which will be held here in Bega next term. The children who will be attending this carnival have taken a note home.
The Southern Region Carnival will be held on Thursday 29th July. Our school is in charge of running the carnival as well as the canteen. We will be asking for helpers on this day to cook on the bbq as well as serve, set up and clean up. Cakes, slices etc will also be appreciated if you are unable to help on the day. There will be reminders about this next term.
The first Friday back next term we will be holding our fun athletics day for junior primary children. This will be held in the school grounds from 11.30am.
