FROM THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

St. Pat's school community wore RED today to support the annual Day for Daniel which honours the memory of Daniel Morcombe. All Australians are asked on this very special day to Wear Red, Educate and Donate.

The theme for 2022 is brave conversations.

Parents, carers, and educators are encouraged to start a conversation with children and young people about personal safety. Schools and early learning centres conduct child safety education activities. Day for Daniel is the Daniel Morcombe Foundation’s biggest fundraiser each year. Your support through fundraising helps us to continue developing free resources and programs for parents, carers, and educators to teach children how to stay safe. Funds also contribute to supporting young victims of crime.

GRANDPARENTS DAY
More than 90 grandparents joined our school community today to celebrate how important they are in all our lives. The School community attended a beautiful celebration of the Eucharist led by Fr. Adrian in St. Patrick's church followed by literacy circles, a sing along and morning tea in our School Hall.
It was lovely to see our grandparents interacting with the class circle through the sharing of literacy.
Reading to a child provides a wonderful opportunity to have a regular, shared event where you look forward to spending time together. Reading to a child has been proven to improve cognitive skills and aid in cognitive development. Cognitive development is the emergence of the ability to understand and think, the construction of thought processes, including remembering, problem solving and decision-making, from childhood through adulthood. How a person perceives his world through areas such as information processing, reasoning, language development, attention span and memory are parts of cognitive development. Reading also stimulates brain cell activity. The more an adult reads to a child, the larger their vocabularies grow, and the more they understand about the world around them.
